Created by François-Nicolas Delaistre, it was originally commissioned for the Louvre to honor Puget’s legacy among other prominent figures in art. Raised in Marseille, Puget began carving ship ornaments in his teens and later trained in Rome under Pietro da Cortona, contributing to the ceilings of the Palazzo Barberini and Palazzo Pitti.
